I’m doing the thing
Postcards (for want of a less clichéd name) is for sharing content that is otherwise buried and forgotten.
Each photo I choose is accompanied by NO MORE than 100 words as a way to reflect on places visited, from near and far, that have left their mark on me in some way, or, I just really like.
Sounds dramatic.
It won’t be. It is simply a space to share the result of (happily) forcing myself to wade through my photo library and choose some to share publicly as a middle finger to fear of judgement.
It’s proof, mainly to my somewhat perfectionist, procrastinating self, that I can indeed follow through on some of the 279 ideas that float around my aging head on a regular basis. I need to earn some credibility.
A while ago a very dear friend gave me a magnet for my birthday. It reads: I prefer to call it a ‘ta-da’ list. ‘Cause it’d be totally amazing if I actually achieved anything on it! Subtle. But I laughed because it’s true. Plus, she knows too much about me to be de-friended. I found it recently, and it’s now displayed under my desktop screen as a ‘gentle’ reminder, along with a Post-it note with FINISH written on it, and a printed version of “things that aren’t doing the thing” essay by Strangest Loop. Over the years I have prominently displayed Just do it - thanks Nike, but now I prefer a slightly more aggressive version, Just bloody do it or if desperate, FFS Valeska.
So here I go. I’m doing (at least ONE of) the things.
